In the summer of 2010, I received some very exciting news.  I was selected by Custom Home Exteriors and James Hardie to receive the grand prize for a contest that I entered for an exterior home makeover!  At first I was in disbelief that I could actually be getting such a generous gift free of charge.  But the owner of the company, Stephen Scoggins, soon confirmed that this was really happening when he appeared on my front steps one morning with a huge bunch of balloons, staff from CHE, and a camera crew to tell me that I was indeed the grand prize winner.  He told me that I would receive new James Hardie ColorPlus siding for my whole house, new shutters, and new gutters.  I have to admit that I was stunned when the crew left.  Mostly, I was amazed by the generosity of this man who owned CHE.

As the excitement began to mount, I called my family and friends and told them the good news.  Most everyone questioned whether I had really won anything.  In the world we live in now, it was hard for folks to believe that this wasn’t a scam.  But, after talking with Stephen and hearing his own story, I had no doubts.  I went into gear looking at houses in the area, trying to pick my siding colors and make decisions on various design options available.

As I researched James Hardie ColorPlus products, I became even more excited with the quality of the product that was going to be used on my house.  The siding was pre-painted with a baked on finish and the warranty was for 15-years.  My house was going to go from masonite on the exterior that was cracking, warping, and pealing to hardiplank that would not require maintenance for a very long time. I had just completed an interior renovation of my house and I was really excited to have the outside renovated too.

CHE provided a crew leader, Scott Burrell, to oversee the work at my house.  They came and began by ripping off all the old masonite.  Not only did they take off the old, they also replaced the areas which had rotten wood underneath.  Then they began the part that was so much fun to watch which was the installation of the hardiplank.  I used a combination of green, red, and tan.  Once the hardplank was installed, it made an enormous difference in the curb appeal of the house.  It doesn’t even look like the same house any more! The neighbors really enjoyed watching the transformation as well.  Folks were stopping by and taking pictures and looking at the work.  It was really a fun time.

Once the hardiplank crew finished its job, Scott brought in the painters to touch up and then the crew to install the shutters and gutters.  The continued transformation was amazing.  The attention to deal throughout the project was extremely high.  Once everything was completed, it looked like a new house.  I even decided to install window while CHE was onsite.  I used the Revere Vinyl windows which are a brownish red color and they are beautiful too. They have made a big difference in the noise that I hear from outside and the insulation factor should also bring down my heating bill.

As if this wasn’t enough, CHE had a big picnic at my house for the neighborhood once the project was finished.  I have such gratitude to CHE and Stephen Scoggins for this generous gift.  The team that Stephen has assembled is outstanding and they do a great job.  In particular, I can’t say enough good things about Scott Burrell.  He is a caring individual who wanted to make sure that I was happy with every detail.  His eye for perfection really kept the project top notch.  I would recommend this company for any work needed on a home.  The main reason I say this is because this company is focused on customer satisfaction as a very high priority.  They are running a business to make money, but they care about people and this shows when they are onsite working.

Stephen Scoggins is a man with a big heart, knowledge of the construction trade, and a sense of how to assemble a good team.  I will be forever grateful to him for his generosity and I also now consider him a friend.  Thank you really does not get the point across, but I do send a big THANK YOU to Stephen Scoggins and the CHE team as well as the Hardiplank company.  You all did a great job on my house and I will enjoy it for years to come!

Sincerely,
Nancy Lowe
